Scissor Sisterhood
(Babydaddy, Ana Matronic, Jake Shears, Paddy Boom and Del Marquis get ready to rock your world.)
One of my absolute favorite current bands is the sensational Scissor Sisters. This New York City group of marvelous musicians is gloriously glamtastic. Their mission is to return the fun and the glitter back to pop music. In a lot of ways, they seem to be kindred spirits to the Jenkins clan. Their sound is best described as Captain Fantastic-era Elton John meets disco-era Bee Gees. As you can see from the band shot above, their look and stage persona is just as dragtastic as their sound.
The lead singer of the band is Jake Shears, an absolute hottie if ever there was one. As you can probably tell from the pic on the right, he’s not exactly shy either. When I met him after a show in Hotlanta, I made sure to coyly address him by his real name (ya, like I’m going to tell you what it is). The poor dear was completely flustered trying to remember how we knew each other. I reassured him that we had never met previously; he certainly would have recalled Daphne Ruth Jenkins if we had.
Anna Matronic is Jake’s side-kick and vocal harmonizer. To truly understand her contribution to the band, you have to see them live. She keeps the party going at all times. From the gossip I’ve heard, she knows how to boogie down off stage as well.
That big cuddly bear, Babydaddy, is the main songwriter as well as the bass player. Velma Gwen, Dolly Wood and I all hung out with him over at Woofs after one of their gigs in Hotlanta. He was an absolute sweetheart. I'm sure that Paris and Cindy Jenkins would have joined us there as well if they handn't gotten so totally tore up at the show. Del Marquis, the fiercely fashionable guitarist also came out for cocktails that night.
Paddy Boom, the solitary straight man in the group, handles drums. According to rumor, musical instruments aren’t the only things he likes slapping. Apparently, he’s a big old S&M daddy for all you ladies out there. My bottom burns just thinking about it.
The band’s first eponymous release is in constant rotation over at my pad. In fact, I’ve even performed that excellent ode to trannie street walkers, Filthy/Gorgeous. The most popular song off the album is probably, Take Your Momma Out which details the delights of taking your Mom to a strip joint. However, you shouldn’t overlook other classics such as Laura with its scathing put down, “This will be the last time I ever cut your hair!”
Their first cd was a huge hit overseas, but didn’t have quite as big an impact here in the States. It did, however, garner the attention of some serious heavy hitters in the music industry. Elton John is a huge fan and has assisted the band in the studio for the production of their hotly anticipated new cd, Ta-Dah. Check out the video above for the insanely catchy first single, I Don’t Feel Like Dancing. I guarantee you won’t be able to sit still for this one.
The Scissor Sisters have also landed themselves a coveted spot on Fashion Rocks, a concert airing this Friday at 9pm on CBS. They’ll be performing alongside other megastar musicians such as Christina Aguilera and Beyoncé as well as up-and-coming talents such as Rihanna. It’s simply a matter of time before the ranks of the Sisterhood is overflowing with new disciples.
Smooches,
Daph

Little known fact: The band actually has Kentucky roots! Acording to Wiki, Baby Daddy and Jake Shears met while at college in Kentucky.
Check it out.

(But it seems they're skipping a visit to their ol' Kentucky Home this tour. (Sorry... that was mean. Just had to rub it in a bit.))
:]
All my friends are talking about the Scissor Sisters, I got my gay card revoked because I didn't know who they were!
I can't believe those bitches aren't coming here to Looseville on their tour. I might have to take a road trip up to Chicago to see them. Maybe I can crash with Paris Jenkins!
It was so much fun watching them perform with Elton John on Fashion Rocks...even if Elton didn't appear to know most of the words.
Smooches,
Daph
They looked great, too...and I read they were the ONLY ones on that whole Fashion Rocks show that did their own styling and wardrobe... Fashion Rocks indeed. Harumph. They walked away with it. Handily.
