River's Edge Revelries
(Marsha B. Jenkins and her kissing cousin, Sheila Watkins.)
This past Memorial Day, I made a very special trip back to Georgia in order to spend the weekend with a veritable orgy of friends at the River's Edge Campground of scenic Dewey Rose.
In a strange coincidence, I ran into Cindy Jenkins at the Atlanta Hartsfield Airport on her way to visit Candy Pants Jenkins in Chicago. Clearly this was an early omen that it was going to be a fun-filled family-themed weekend. The festivities started out with an absolute bang on Friday night with a show featuring my dear sister, Marsha B. Jenkins. The revue was nothing short of spectacular. Marsha's first number was the new wave classic, "Don't Go" by Yaz. And that's exactly what we were all screaming as she wrapped up her first crowd-pleaser.
There were many other wonderful performers that night as well. I had the great pleasure of meeting Catherine B. Styles for the first time. Talk about an absolute ray of sunshine and glitter! Whether strutting the stage, twirling by the poolside or riding her moped through a party with a fog machine in tow, this gal put a smile on my face every time our paths crossed.
Miss Glover showed 'em all how it's done when she kicked up those gorgeous gams. Talk about the total package: sweet as pie, terrifically talented and beyond beautiful. No wonder she's always such a crowd favorite.
My dear sisters, Linda Hand Jenkins and Bo Lima Jenkins were also in on all the festivities. They hosted a lovely party Saturday night, providing all the revelers with a delicious low country boil. They certainly know their way around "low" things, those two. Bo Lima was on her best behavoir for once. I barely heard her speak an ill will about a soul all weekend. Well, that was until she greeted Pinkie Jenkins with, "Where have you been all day Pinkie, routing around for truffles?"
It was an absolute delight to be present when Brownie Betty made an appearance by the pool one glorious afternoon. Apparently, she has expanded her repertoire of "baked" goods to include peanut butter fudge. I just love it when an old bitch learns new tricks. It's been too long since the last time Betty and I let it all hang out at the campground together.
Ever the industrious soul, Marsha made a little spare change by offering manicures throughout the weekend. Here she is working over Dannyboy's cheetos.
Alas, all good things must come to an end. Monday morning rolled around and it was time for me and Dannyboy to drag our tired asses back to Atlanta Hartsfield Airport. We got there rather early for our flight back to Looseville which gave Dannyboy plenty of time to catch up with old friend, Ed Wall before we got on the plane. Boys will be boys!
Smooches,
Daph
